Company: Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research
Job title: Associate Director, Ophthalmology Research
Chad Bigelow, PhD is an associate director in ophthalmology research at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). He is currently the head of the ocular imaging lab, where his focus is developing translatable biomarkers for use in animal model development and drug discovery. Currently the group is using a combination of imaging, behavioral assays, and visual electrophysiology for quantifying structural and functional changes associated with disease pathology. Prior to joining Novartis, he worked on developing new techniques for revealing microscopic changes in the eye through the application of adaptive optics techniques to optical coherence tomography and scanning laser ophthalmoscopy imaging. He received his undergraduate degree in engineering physics from the University of Michigan and PhD in Optics from the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester.
